Description

CSP Type Self-Protected Transformer

The CSP series is a fully automatic self-protected pole-mounted transformer, characterized by integrated protection components on both its high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) sides. These built-in protective elements are specifically designed to safeguard the transformer itself and ensure the overall security of the power network.
As a fully automatic single-phase transformer, it delivers reliable protection against lightning strikes, short circuits, and overloads. By activating its inherent protective functions, the CSP transformer prevents power outages in transmission and distribution lines that would otherwise result from transformer malfunctions, enhancing the stability and continuity of the power supply.

TPC Type Self-Protected Transformer

Distinct from the CSP series, the TPC transformer integrates a Petersen coil and high-voltage fuses directly within its tank. Additionally, it can be optionally equipped with transient steep wave protection, safeguarding the unit against damage caused by sudden transient voltage surges in the power network.
The TPC system is an integrated cut-off protection solution exclusively designed for Rockwill transformers, protected by a proprietary patent. This innovative design ensures comprehensive safety for both personnel and the surrounding environment in the event of transformer failures. It effectively clears all internal faults and downstream faults (serving as a backup protection) without any external fault manifestations.
A key advantage of the TPC protection system is its automatic three-phase disconnection upon detecting any fault. This feature significantly enhances the reliability of the entire electrical system, with particular focus on protecting the transformer itself from severe damage.

TPC Transformers with Built-in Petersen Coil

The integrated Petersen coil is engineered to compensate for capacitive ground currents in the power network using inductive current. This compensation effectively reduces the fault current level during earth faults, thereby improving operational safety, increasing the probability of arc self-extinction, and minimizing damage at the fault location.
In the event of a fault, TPC-equipped transformers consistently disconnect all three phases, which in turn maintains higher power quality across the entire grid. For added protection, the transformer can also be fitted with components to withstand steep wave transients commonly encountered in power networks.

Key Configurations of TPC Transformers

CSP Technology

Rockwill equipped several components, in order to create the CSP transformer. These components when applied to the transformer during its manufacturing process, provide multiple layers of protection.

Outline drawing High Voltage Fuse

Fully automatic Self Protected pole mounted transformer 12kV 24kV

Acts as over current protection by isolating the faulty transformer from the network. It is mounted inside of the transformer and it is connected between the incoming high voltage lead from the bushing and the high voltage line lead from the transformer primary winding.

Overload Indicator

Fully automatic Self Protected pole mounted transformer 12kV 24kV

Provides visual indication of abnormal loading conditions. The signal light is mounted on the exterior wall of the transformer tank near the operating handle of the circuit breaker. The signal light is electrically connected to the signal light sensing circuit within the transformer.

Low Voltage (Secondary) Circuit Breaker

Provides secondary fault and overload protection. The circuit breaker is mounted inside of the transformer and it is connected between the secondary winding and secondary bushing, such that the current flows through the circuit breaker
